Fluffy no more!

I know that in order to make any life change, you have to get to the point that you are sick and tired of things the way they are. I have been on a 12+ month eating spree & exercise hiatus, since I got pregnant with Lauren. Well, I am to the point where I am tired of being a fluffy mommy. My friend Molly has been doing a program called "Couch to 5K." It is a program that takes you from basically no exercise to running a 5K in 9 weeks. It makes sense to me. Just like when I learned to teach reading correctly. No one ever really taught me how to help kids learn. I kind of floundered the first year or two until I learned a systematic program that showed me and the kids how to learn to read. It finally made sense. That's the way this program is for running. I thought you just had to start running and that was too difficult for me. I felt like I was dying when I did that. I started the Couch to 5K (C25K)today and made it through with no dying. Today I did a 5 minute brisk warm-up walk. Then alternated 60 seconds of jogging and 90 seconds of walking for a total of 20 minutes. I used a podcast that was set to music and the guy told you when to run and walk (while I watched HGTV). I'm telling you, this was almost kind of fun. The next two times I will do the same thing. You are supposed to do the C25K program three days a week. So, you wonder why I'm telling you this? Well, I want to stay true to my commitment. I am going to try to post after each workout so that YOU know I'm doing it too. What are my goals you ask? I'd like to run the Popcorn Panic 5K here in Valpo. this September and be down to my former size 6 self (Yes... I was there about 5 years ago). I don't really care about the weight as much as the size. There are several items of clothing that I'd like to wear again (although they are probably way out of style by now...it's the point that I can wear them again.) This is NOT a New Year's resolution. I've been working my way up to this for a while. This is a personal commitment to better health. Wish me luck!

Good for you. My sentiments were much the same as yours. I'm such a black and white person, though, I'd like to know whats considered a "brisk pace" and a "run". What did you use for your settings?
